FootballScoreClub Rules

This is the official guide to how FootballScoreClub works. These rules cover league setup, rounds, prediction order, prediction times, unique scorelines, scoring, standings and membership changes.

The key rule

For each fixture, the first player to submit a particular scoreline owns it. A later player using the same scoreline scores 0 points for that prediction unless they change it to an available scoreline.

1

Game overview

FootballScoreClub is a private football prediction game. Players compete in a league by predicting the exact scores of three selected fixtures in each FootballScoreClub round.

Points accumulate across the active league competition. The player with the highest total sits top of the standings.

  • Each round contains exactly 3 fixtures.
  • A private league contains 2–8 players.
  • Players predict in an ordered sequence that rotates from round to round.
  • Scorelines are unique: the first player to claim a scoreline owns it for that fixture.
2

Leagues

FootballScoreClub is played in private leagues. A league is created by one player, who becomes the league owner.

  • A league requires at least 2 players before it can begin.
  • A league can contain no more than 8 players.
  • Players normally join using an invitation from the league.
  • The league owner controls the league and must transfer ownership before leaving an active league.
3

Rounds & fixtures

FootballScoreClub uses its own round structure. A FootballScoreClub round is separate from a Premier League, Champions League or other competition's official gameweek.

There are two FootballScoreClub round windows:

Friday–Monday Round

Friday to Monday

This round begins on Friday and covers eligible fixtures played from Friday through Monday.

Player 1 opens

Monday at 10:00am UK time

Four days before the round begins on Friday.

Tuesday–Thursday Round

Tuesday to Thursday

This round begins on Tuesday and covers eligible fixtures played from Tuesday through Thursday.

Player 1 opens

Friday at 10:00am UK time

Four days before the round begins on Tuesday.

Exactly three fixtures are selected for each FootballScoreClub round. Those fixtures can come from different eligible football competitions, provided they fall within that round's Friday–Monday or Tuesday–Thursday window.

  • Every participating player predicts all three selected fixtures.
  • Player 1 can begin predicting at 10:00am UK time four days before the FootballScoreClub round begins.
  • The hard prediction deadline is determined by the first of the three selected fixtures, not simply by the start of the wider round window.
  • Once the round is complete, the points earned are added to the league standings.
4

Prediction order

Players do not all predict at the same time. Each round has a defined prediction order.

The starting player rotates forward by one place after each round. The order itself remains circular and does not reverse.

Example with four players

Round 1: Alex → Ben → Chris → Dana

Round 2: Ben → Chris → Dana → Alex

Round 3: Chris → Dana → Alex → Ben

Once a round's prediction order has been created, that round keeps its player list and order even if somebody joins or leaves the league afterwards.

5

Prediction times & deadline

Every round has a hard prediction deadline of 11:00pm UK time on the night before the first selected fixture kicks off.

After 11:00pm, no player can submit or change a prediction for that round.

Player 1 opens first

Player 1 can begin predicting at 10:00am UK time, four days before the FootballScoreClub round opens.

That means Monday at 10:00am for a Friday–Monday round, or Friday at 10:00am for a Tuesday–Thursday round.

Later players

Every later player has a scheduled fallback unlock time. These fallback times are spaced two hours apart, working backwards from the 11:00pm hard deadline.

A player does not always have to wait for their scheduled fallback time. If the player immediately before them submits early, the next player's turn opens immediately.

Important

A fallback time is an unlock time, not a closing time. Once a player is unlocked, they may submit at any time before the 11:00pm hard deadline.

This means more than one player can be eligible to submit at the same time if earlier players have not yet submitted.

Scheduled fallback unlocks

Player 1's time is based on the opening of the FootballScoreClub round. Player 2 onwards have scheduled fallback unlocks on the night before the first selected fixture. All times shown below are UK time.

Example: 4-player Friday–Monday round

The FootballScoreClub round begins on Friday, so Player 1 opens four days earlier on Monday at 10:00am.

If the first selected fixture is on Friday, the hard deadline is Thursday at 11:00pm. Player 2 is guaranteed access by 5:00pm Thursday, Player 3 by 7:00pm and Player 4 by 9:00pm.

If Player 1 submits before Player 2's fallback time, Player 2 opens immediately. If Player 2 then submits, Player 3 opens immediately, and so on.

Everyone remains subject to the same final 11:00pm UK deadline.

6

Unique scorelines

The unique-scoreline rule is the main competitive mechanic in FootballScoreClub.

For each individual fixture, the first player to submit a particular scoreline owns that scoreline.

Example

Sarah submits Arsenal 2–1 Chelsea.

Sarah now owns the 2–1 scoreline for that fixture.

Dave later submits Arsenal 2–1 Chelsea as well. Dave's prediction is a duplicate and will score 0 points unless he changes it.

  • Scoreline ownership applies separately to each fixture.
  • The same numerical score can therefore be owned by different players on different fixtures.
  • A duplicate prediction scores 0 even if that score later turns out to be the correct result or exact score.
  • A player can change a duplicate to an available scoreline before the hard deadline.
7

Editing & locking predictions

Prediction editing depends on whether the submitted scoreline is unique or duplicated.

  • A scoreline that is unique when submitted becomes locked.
  • A locked unique prediction cannot be changed.
  • A later duplicate remains editable so the player can correct it.
  • When a duplicate is changed to an available unique scoreline and submitted, the new scoreline becomes locked.
  • No prediction can be changed after the round's hard deadline.
8

Scoring

Each prediction can score 4, 3, 1 or 0 points.

★★

4 points

Exact scoreline with 5 or more total goals.

★

3 points

Exact scoreline with fewer than 5 total goals.

✓

1 point

Correct result, but not the exact score.

0

0 points

Incorrect result or duplicate scoreline.

A correct result means correctly predicting whether the home team wins, the away team wins or the match is drawn.

9

Results & standings

Once fixtures are completed, FootballScoreClub calculates the points earned from each prediction.

  • Round results show each fixture's final score alongside every player's prediction.
  • Exact scores with 5 or more total goals are marked with two stars and score 4 points. Other exact scores are marked with one star and score 3 points.
  • Correct results are marked with a tick and score 1 point.
  • Round points are added to the player's existing league total.
  • The standings show previous points, current-round points and the player's overall total.
10

Joining & leaving an active league

Membership changes are designed so they do not rewrite a round that is already underway.

Joining after the league has started

  • A new player joins from the next eligible FootballScoreClub round.
  • They are not inserted into the prediction order of a round that has already been created for the existing players.
  • Once their first eligible prediction turn opens, their membership becomes fully active.

Leaving after the league has started

  • A departing player remains part of their current eligible round.
  • They stop taking part in later rounds once their departure becomes effective.
  • Their historical predictions and points remain visible.
  • A membership change cannot reduce an active league below the minimum of 2 players.
  • The league owner must transfer ownership before leaving.
11

Full-season & half-season leagues

A FootballScoreClub league can compete across a full season or use half-season competitions.

Full season

Points accumulate through the active full-season competition. At the end of the football season, the competition is completed and the league can continue into a new competition or end.

Half season

A half-season league has a first-half competition followed by a second-half competition. At the midpoint, the first-half standings are finalised and the league begins the second half from 0 points.

The league itself remains in place. Members do not need to create a new league simply because a competition resets.
